The Prevention Or Relief Of Poverty

Around 230 women who are trapped in, or vulnerable to street sex work will be supported to break free and build new lives away from violence, poverty and addiction. They will be reached through a women only drop-in centre, and night outreach, operated from a van which goes out to the women working on the street to provide a safe haven and practical support. Caseworkers will empower women to take control of their lives and provide them with support for as long as they need.

Toward the continuation and expansion of the group's Peony service, for Bristol women facing multiple disadvantages, helping them break free from trauma, by providing peer support and access to activities, training and employment.

One 25 Limited will have an Independent Domestic and Sexual Violence Adviser (SWIDSVA) to support women who are street sex-working with the trauma of violence, and helping to secure their escape from the streets. It will focus on sexual violence, to complement an existing Adviser who will focus on domestic violence. Working regularly from One25s night outreach van, the Adviser will become a trusted source of support and guidance for some of the UKs most vulnerable women, and their link to health, psycho-social, welfare and criminal justice services.

This is the continuation and development of an existing project that aims to help vulnerable women in Bristol who are trapped in street-sex work to permanently break free and build new lives away from the streets. The project uses a number of general and specialist caseworkers to support women through the full spectrum of need and to help them make positive life changes.

Casework Support Service

This project targets women who are socially isolated and suffer from poor physical and mental health. The project will help them lead a more healthy and socially integrated lifestyle, experiencing life skill mentoring and some formal training.

One25 will use this three year grant to provide resettlement help and family support for women sex workers and their children.  The grant will pay the salaries of two project workers, freelance worker costs plus training and travel costs  for staff and volunteers.

The award is for a project by a group in St Pauls, Bristol to hold training sessions for volunteers within the organisation covering drug awareness, issues relating to female sex-workers and improving people skills. The grant will contribute towards training days, a drug awareness training kit and the National Conference.

Peony is a unique new service for women in early recovery from addiction, trauma and mental ill health, who are more likely to fall through the cracks of services. Designed to help them tackle their multiple disadvantages, its providing peer support and assisted access to employment, training and education, helping them maintaining their recovery by separating from those still using drugs.We are delivering a structured activity programme alongside one-to-one support, Tuesday to Thursday, 12.3018.30. The programme opened to service users in September 2018 with 3-4 sessions per day, each with a maximum of 15 attendees. We aim to work with 50 women in the first year.Sessions are delivered by skilled volunteer facilitators and partners (Tools for Empowerment, Squarefood Foundation, I.SAVVIE, and Yogaloni) and include:- Wellbeing: Yoga, Dance, Massage, Meditation, Cooking, Pampering, Arts & Craft, Woodwork- Skill-Building: Money Management, Employment & Volunteer skills- Group Work: Resilience toolkit, peer supportAll use a holistic and solution-focused approach to meet each woman where she is, to help her achieve the goals she wants to set, via informal chats or structured goal setting. Life skills groups will reduce womens marginalisation, helping them build social networks to maintain recovery. Improved life skills and clear aspirations also improves mental health, motivation, and resilience. Routes into employment improves their financial situation, reducing dependence on illegal activities to secure money. Volunteering, training and employment improves womens recovery capital and gives them realistic employment choices beyond sex work.

Women Side by Side

When we first meet women, theyre often living chaotic and dangerous lives, with multiple complex needs, and find it incredibly challenging to access support. All suffer extreme trauma, from abuse both in childhood and their adult lives. But they are survivors, incredibly brave and resilient, who can and do recover with the right support. Women on the streets really value our drop-in, and we know it works as part of a holistic, wraparound approach to help step away from street sex work. Drop-in is where they come for a sanctuary; it makes them feel less alone and connected to a community of peers. They come for food, clean clothes and rest, in a place of respect and non-judgement. They chat to a sexual health nurse, see a GP, read warnings about local attacks to keep themselves safer. They meet a housing caseworker who, when theyre ready, will help them secure emergency accommodation. They chat in the garden with our recovery caseworker, sowing the seed that detox and rehab might be an option. They start to see that change might be possible, and trust that if they ask for help, theyll get it in a way that works for them. In 2018-19 across all our services we expect to see: 47 women exit street sex work 190 supported with health issues 115 women supported with their addiction 120 women safely housed 50 take part in creative and skill-building activities We expect to support 120 women in drop-in, and 2,100 visits. We will be able to report on May-Nov 2019 in December 2019; at present we have no reason to believe 2019-20 outcomes will be dramatically different. Drop-in is invaluable.
