The project aims to support families with children under five living among the most deprived areas in Bristol. By providing specifically tailored activities offering emotional and practical support, it aims to tackle issues including isolation, poor emotional health, single parenting, immigration, domestic abuse and family break-ups, whilst better connecting families with their local communities.

Home-Start Bristol provides support to disadvantaged families. This grant will support 30 families living in the most deprived areas of Bristol. These families will be able to cope with the difficulties they face, access support and become independent.

Employing a senior coordinator over one year that will enable senior members of the organisation to strengthen partnerships, build closer working relationships with local authority and NHS commissioners, explore new ways of generating income, and develop support services to families.

The funding will be used to continue a programme of activities and interventions aimed at key communities on the edge of Bristol, and to extend these services into country towns and more rurally isolated parts of South Gloucestershire. The project aims to make a positive lasting impact on the development of children and the health and welfare of the family by offering early intervention, reducing stress and encouraging the families to have the confidence to engage with community activities and services.

Closing The Gap

COVID19 - This grant will fund IT equipment to ensure the project can deliver activities online to socially-isolated families due to Covid-19  to ensure the children and parents are able to cope with challenging environments.

BBC Children in Need

This project will provide weekly support for families experiencing complex needs and parenting issues with very young children. As a result children will have improved physical health, feel happier and be better prepared for primary school.

NET, Comic Relief and Children in Need will use this funding to provide: increased support to vulnerable people and hidden groups, thus reducing the burden on public services; reach local grassroots and small organisations who can provide an on-the-ground community response to the crisis; and, support local charitable organisations to mobilise volunteers to enable better targeted support in communities through empowered local groups.
