This is a continuation and expansion of a project to support parents who are experiencing perinatal depression, living in and around targeted areas of Bristol. The programme will continue to deliver 12 week programmes providing therapeutic activities including yoga, relaxation and drama therapy as well as sessions on parenting skills, self esteem, self harm, eating disorders, depression and relationship concerns. Parents will have an opportunity to share their experiences and mentor others.

COVID19 - This grant will fund online and one to one activities for 100 children with parents who have perinatal mental illness, who are isolated at home due to Covid-19. Children will improve their emotional wellbeing.

This project will provide a creche for children with parents who have perinatal mental illness. The sessions will help build relationships, support children's physical development and manage emotions and feelings.

"The fund aims to:1) To reduce closures of essential charities that provide essential services to vulnerable groups during the COVID-19 crisis by ensuring they have the financial resources to operate, thereby reducing the burden on public services.2) To ensure essential services are provided to vulnerable people, both in the short and long term through increased community support through the work of charitable organisations."

This new 19-montth project will deliver weekly drop-in group sessions and peer support to parents’ affected by ante and post-natal depression in Upper Horfield, Bristol. The parents will be able to meet for a coffee and a chat with other parents in similar situations and get advice from other (trained) parents who are recovering from perinatal depression themselves. Sessions will include jewellery-making, baking, taster sessions of yoga, Zumba etc

The funding will be used to lease and re-decorate a property to run a creative meeting place, cafe and shop. The project will also run the first informal drop in facility for parents affected by perinatal mental illness (PMI) in Bristol from the venue. Workshops will be held for new and expectant parents by staff and volunteers with lived experience of PMI. The workshops aim to increase recovery rates from PMI, promote and increase wellbeing and confidence, increase social networks and decrease isolation.

A pilot befriending project for parents who are socially isolated will be funded, leading to improved community engagement and reduced isolation.
