This two-year project is developing a Woman’s Action Group for women with disabilities living in Bristol, including those with mental illnesses and with chronic less visible/hidden illnesses. The group meets monthly to identify objectives, such as more accessible transport or improved GP experiences for women with chronic pain, and then campaign for change on these issues. They also receive talks and training from external speakers, volunteering opportunities, and access to resources. The project is run by the women and enables peer support and personal goals to be set. It aims to increase confidence and positive mental health, reduce loneliness and isolation, and lead to positive change for disabled women in Bristol.

Towards the Operations Manager and Director salaries, and some associated core costs, enabling BWV to provide capacity building and volunteering support for Bristol’s women’s sector. The following key milestones to be completed by the end of this grant: (1) Securing new premises for BWV (2) Engaging and working with members to capture common needs and themes and identify sector specific support; (3) Developing a sector informed and sector specific volunteer programme; (4) Providing support to smaller organisations in the network;

To introduce a gender dimension to Bristol?s new Temple Quay Enterprise Zone by representing local women, identifying ways to enable women to access employment, connecting women with skills providers/potential employers and influencing decision makers.

The organisation will use the funding to train volunteers to lead online support groups for women within the city who are isolated and may have issues linked to their mental health. The volunteers will provide support bubbles to ensure regular contact and support as well as signposting services to aid mental health and well-being.
