Key objective: To provide resilience support to farmers and land managers to help them prepare for, and adjust to, the Agricultural Transition by addressing the opportunities it presents and the impacts it could have. The project will also monitor the impact and value for money of this resilience support to inform potential future scale-up plans. The project will take place over 6 months in financial years 19-20 and 20-21 and will be monitored and evaluated on a Âreal-timeÂ basis and the results will feed in to consideration of a scale-up of the support from 2020 onwards. The initial stage of the project will provide evidence on the benefits of government-funded interventions to farmers, whether this adds anything to services already being provided by other sources and whether we have provided the right type of support needed.

This project aims to address the issues of access to quality food and environmental sustainability within food supply-chains. We will research, co-design and develop innovative supply-chain solutions to ensure that high-quality, sustainably produced food is available and affordable to all, particularly people on low incomes.   We will work with processors and retailers to find innovative ways to get sustainably produced food to communities with less of a mark-up, helping achieve a fairer food system and drive the demand for sustainable farming.  We will also research how to scale-up existing local models that bring food more directly from farm to consumer using online technology, shortening supply chains enormously.

The Soil Association Ltd-High-quality, sustainable food - available and affordable through new supply-chain models.

Soil Association will use funding to deliver a suite of activities as part of the Sustainable Food Places programme which aims provide additional support for approximately 45 food hubs across England. The support will ensure food reaches those who need it most. The funding will also be used to provide coordination of local and new community food support/distribution initiatives and support food hubs to signpost people into the most appropriate support available.

Sustainable Food Places - Covid 19 response

An expansion of the Soil Associationâ€™s Food for Life programme, this project uses good food to reduce isolation and improve the nutrition and wellbeing of older people. Food for Life Better Care will work directly with older people to develop and tailor programmes to reflect the different needs in three areas across the UK; Edinburgh, Calderdale and Kirklees and Leicester City and Leicestershire. Older people in care settings, hospitals and their own homes will be supported to eat and enjoy food together.

Good Food Matters for Older People

This funding will be used to develop a project looking at community-led transformation of the food landscape across England and Scotland, addressing issues of malnourishment and isolation for older people. The development grant will be used to co-design the project in Leicestershire, Calderdale and Kirklees, and Edinburgh, including scoping and design work, user involvement, staff costs, travel, training and stakeholder engagement.
