This project, based on a established youth-led volunteering model is expanding as a result of self-referrals and is being delivered in Hackney, Haringey and Tower Hamlets. It will support young people aged 13 to 25 to deliver volunteering and social action projects which they have identified to be of benefit to the local community. The aim of project is that all of the young people who are participating in it will develop key skills and have positive experiences that will shape their personal development.

This is the expansion of a project supporting volunteers aged 50 plus to run activities for vulnerable older people to improve health and well-being. These have previously included art classes, creative writing, yoga and computer club. The group will expand across the city, recruiting more volunteers, supporting more than 800 new people and establishing a Menâ€™s Network to encourage older men to socialise regularly. It will also extend its HealthLink scheme to help older people get to medical appointments.

LifeLines

CSV Media is the arm of CSV which seeks to use media to empower and inform people to give different communities a voice. The project 'FIRST' will work with people who are disadvantaged in the labour market and have low levels of IT skills. It will run a series of workshops around the Ipswich area on the subject of interactive storytelling enabling people to share experiences and gain understanding.

Volunteering Matters will use the grant to support younger people with disabilities in Blaenau Gwent by providing them with skills and empowering them during the transition from education to further education, employment or training. This grant for Â£5,000 will fund volunteer expenses, mentor training, stationery and telephone costs, promotional materials, evaluation, and administration support.

The project is to recruit volunteers over the age of 50yrs and place them in schools alongside children wh0 need help in developing their basic numeracy and literacy skills. The project will empower older people to engage in local community activity. The grant over three years will partly fund one full time and one part time Schools Project Co-ordinator post, training and travel for staff and volunteers, office equipment, rent and general running expenses.

To provide a dedicated volunteer transport service for carers, young and old. Drivers will be recruited from the older, retired population to provide the service throughout Ceredigion. The Stepping Stones Project addresses a gap in service provision for homeless people in Barnet. The project will operate on Sunday and Bank Holidays to complement a week-day service run by Homeless Action in Barnet at the same location. Homeless people will be provided with meals and supported to access services in areas such as health, personal hygiene and drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Volunteers will receive training to help broaden their experience and develop their skills.

The Stepping Stones Project

The project will empower older people to take an active part in their communities by giving them the opportunity to take the lead in designing and delivering voluntary services to support the development of children in Hackney and Tower Hamlets. Older volunteers will work in primary schools to provide support for pupils, especially those for whom English is an additional language.

Cole Haven

This project in Stockton-on-Tees, based on successful previous work in Middlesbrough, is a volunteer-led initiative to support older people at risk of distraction burglary. Volunteers will visit vulnerable and older people in their homes, or in community settings such as day centres, to empower them to avoid doorstep crime. Older people will be alerted to the types of tricks used, simple steps they can take to avoid being victims, and the importance of reporting any incidents to the police.

Operation Strongbow

Young Voices is a three year project that will develop and deliver a creative and engaging programme of volunteering opportunities for young people to enable them to build skills and confidence in a key community environment, that of their local library. _x000B__x000B_CSV will work in partnership with Halton, Manchester, and Oldham Library Services to develop this project.

This continuation project will enable Community Service Volunteers to reduce the isolation of older people, particularly those in Asian communities, and improve their physical and mental health by empowering them to devise, set up and take part in activities as volunteers and organisers. Volunteers will be supported to run activities in their local community, such as gardening, healthy walking groups, knitting and IT training.

Older Volunteering with CSV RSVP Coventry -Small Actions, Big Ideas

This project helps people with, or who are recovering from mental health difficulties. The training on offer covers a wide range of topics, and includes life skills training to aid independent living and employment skills workshops. Following training, the students will be encouraged to move into supported volunteering, further education or employment. Courses will be delivered across the former coalfields area of North Nottinghamshire in the East Midlands.

Puzzle Island will be a mobile play experience adaptable to any outdoor space and will be flexible to meet the needs of the children and adults playing. A range technologies, such as GPS, solar panels, Meccano, crafts and photography, will be used to create an imaginative adventure game featuring challenges and problem-solving elements tailored to the interests of the children involved.

Called the Vocal Project, participants work with community volunteers who help them to access training and social events. CSV Vocal Project

Community Service Volunteers (CSV) works to reconnect people to their community through volunteering and training and to enrich people?s lives. This project will produce short audio and visual clips on volunteer's experiences, produced by the volunteers themselves. CSV will showcase the clips in order to recognise their efforts and promote volunteering to others, through radio, TV and at local community events. This will be done in conjunction with the 'Year of the Volunteer' campaign.

This award will help raise older people's awareness of distraction burglaries/bogus callers. Volunteers will provide information and advice about prevention tactics and how older people could best respond to an unusual caller. Isolated older people will be particularly targeted for this service with advice sessions being given mainly to small groups of older people and through community groups._x000B_

The funding will be used to continue this project, Head Space, in Ipswich which aims to support people at risk of or experiencing poor mental health. The project will deliver a programme of personalised support to improve social skills, increase confidence and self esteem; all of which play a critical role in the rehabilitation process for people with mental health difficulties. The project will also support 40 peer mentors to gain valuable transferable skills to help them access employment or training.

Head Space

This project will provide volunteering activities and opportunities for a wide range of people in the UK. It aims to enable young people aged 14-19 with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to raise their aspirations, independence and work-skills through community engagement, supported by volunteer mentors. Based in Kings Lynn, the project will run across the country.

This project will train and equip older people to act as volunteers to lead local activities for their peers in Manchester. Volunteers will choose to partake in three areas; active body activities, active mind activities and intergenerational activities. An example of an active body group could be walking groups, six to be established where volunteers are trained as walk leaders and first aiders.

This works to improve the quality of life of older people living in specific areas of Brighton where there is a high concentration of care homes, sheltered accommodation and social housing. The project focuses on increasing levels of activeness and community engagement amongst older people and to reduce loneliness and isolation experienced by this beneficiary group.

This project will raise awareness of recycling in Birmingham with a community recycling project turning waste cooking oil into an inexpensive zero carbon biofuel for the community groups involved to use. The project will work with domestic users, schools, community organisations, fast food shops and restaurants.

Grease Lightening

This project will enable people over 50 to address issues of loneliness. The project will be delivered in three strands addressing the needs of younger beneficiaries by encouraging volunteering to delay the effects of aging, those isolated or in care who can leave their homes to attend activity 'hubs' and those who through age or infirmity are housebound and will need one to one volunteer support to follow their interests.

Welcome Friends

This project will address the needs of three groups of older people. Ones facing transition periods who will act as volunteers thus addressing their own social isolation, those socially isolated but able to attend activities ouside the home and those who are frail and housebound. Activities will be centred on residential homes but not exclusive to residents. Volunteers will be used as befrienders and activity organisers.

This project offers lifelong learning, reading development and reminiscence opportunities for older and disabled people in residential care homes, sheltered accommodation, day care services, links services and hospitals/hospices. In total the project will work across 100 establishments across Kent and Medway. The project activities will improve their mental stimulation and lead to increased social inclusion and intergenerational links with the community.

The Skills Swap project will establish three Local Action Groups comprising older and younger people throughout Rhondda Cynon Taf that will plan and facilitate a programme of intergenerational 'Skills Swap' sessions to be delivered in community venues and schools.

This is a collaborative project to enrich the lives of people with disabilities by empowering them to participate in community life through volunteering. It operates across the London Borough of Barnet. The expansion is in increased capacity to cope with a waiting list and to try to engage the most hard-to-reach disabled people currently not involved with the services.

This new project, targeting the most disadvantaged areas of Bristol, will create a volunteer-led landscaping team working with communities. The primary focus will be to deliver a non-profit gardening service to elderly and disabled resident who experience poverty and social isolation, helping them to enjoy and benefit from use of their green space. The scheme will also provide a low cost service to groups and organisations who would like to manage their green spaces themselves.

Regen Community Gardening Project

This project expands an existing scheme that reaches out to isolated older people by adding new healthy eating and exercise opportunities to its existing volunteering programme for people aged 50 and over. The new work will introduce older ex-carers to the sociability of volunteering and help them regain a sense of life purpose. There will also be the establishment of community allotments run by older volunteers, paired reading, gardening and walks.

The project will provide a localised model of volunteer support to carers and their cared for by recruiting teams of older volunteers within a limited geographical radius of small communities in Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion to provide affordable transport and other types of household support.

Help4Carers

Sex Matters aims to improve the sexual health and well-being of young people aged 14 - 25 living in disadvantaged areas of Gwent. Working with Gwent NHS Trust 150 young people will be recruited and trained as Sex Matters volunteers. After receiving relevant training the volunteers will set-up and deliver 288 Sex Matters workshops over 3 years.

This expansion of an existing project will aim to improve the physical and mental health of older people in Middlesbrough and Stockton-on-Tees through providing volunteer opportunities and activities, including information and networking meetings, community events and physical activities. A pilot project has been run, covering a limited area of Middlesbrough. The grant will fund the salaries of project workers, training and activities._x000B_

Reaching Out: Active Ageing in Middlesbrough and Stockton-on-Tees

This project will support a number of offenders and ex-offenders to obtain secure accommodation, employment, good mental and physical health and a degree of social inclusion through a programme of volunteer mentoring. Each year, the group will recruit and train 60 people to be volunteer mentors who will go through a recruitment exercise before receiving training. After this, volunteers will be assigned to a beneficiary and provide support for between 6 and 26 weeks.

CSV will use their grant to expand their 'Essex Supported Volunteering Project' which provides volunteer mentor support to disabled people to help them build their confidence and take part in social activities and integrate into social groups as well as help them use community facilities and to take up voluntary work.

This is a new project developed through consultation from a previous project delivered  by CSV based in Ipswich, which aims to provide vulnerable and disadvantaged families considered 'at risk' with support that will promote positive relationships and stable family structure through learning together and regular and consistent mentoring by volunteers. _x000B_

R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

This new project by CSV aims to  change the lives of three groups of older Londoners. Firstly there are those aged between 50 - 66, unemployed, and the aim is to engage them in learning to be leaders (Volunteer Organisers) of voluntary activities for their peers. The transferable skills they will gain, including improved IT skills, will enhance employment opportunies with the option of taking further learning or volunteering elsewhere.

City-wise

This a new project aims to improve the health and wellbeing of vulnerable and isolated older men living in Middlesbrough. It will target the physically inactive and those at risk from undetected health conditions, depression and are lacking in motivation. The project will support beneficiaries to run their own physical activities that could include bowls, football, walking etc which will be delivered in community centres, church halls, working men's clubs, pubs, allotments,  green spaces and leisure venues.

Sporting Chance

This project works with parents and children aged 12-16 to help parents engage with and understand youth sub-culture through multimedia activities including film, radio, multi-media, music and arts projects. Issues of identity and behaviour will be explored by using 'Life Story' books, video diaries and talking families through a journey of their heritage.

FIND OUT (Families In Ipswich Nurturing and Development) and OUTreach

CSV in Bristol will expand its service to engage, train and support families and volunteers from the local community in the delivery of safe outdoor play events and activities for disadvantaged children with little access to play spaces. This will include working with local and city wide organisations including Bristol City Council, Hartcliffe and Withywood community partnerships, local schools, youth clubs and residents associations.

This organisation will set up a new sustainability initiative, creating a website for schools and their communities in the highlands to share experiences. The website will focus on eco projects, learning new ways to live sustainably, preserving energy and actioning change. The grant will be used to pay for website design, event staff costs, catering and volunteer expenses.

This is a project by a charity and not for profit company based in Ipswich. The group will use funding to work with BME women to enable them to take part in volunteering activities, to run community events, including cookery and healthy eating events and to develop their own web page. This will reduce isolation for BME women, enable them to integrate into society and to publicise their activities to more BME women to encourage them to become involved in their activities.

Community Service Volunteers (CSV) Media in Cambridge has been awarded a grant to enable them to carry out a range of activities as part of their commemoration and celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the end of WW2. The project will include original BBC 1940's style radio equipment to broadcast archive audio material, where the children will be allowed to read them and make up their own editions to be recorded to take home.

This national charity will use an award to establish a Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme (RSVP) in deprived areas of Liverpool and Manchester. This new initiative will offer volunteering opportunities for older people through a range of recruitment and training activities, enabling participants to develop new skills. The project will also reduce isolation by helping older people to become actively engaged in their local community and make a positive contribution to people in need.

Extending Our Reach - Recruiting Volunteer Organisers in the North West

CSV will engage young volunteers across Gwent to produce a DVD aimed at giving parents the information and skills to discuss relationships and sexual health with their children. This meets the Awards for All aim of 'improving the quality of life'. This grant for Â£4,928 will fund staff and volunteer expenses, promotion and marketing, DVD production and a community launch event.

S.H.A.R.E

Under their Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme, this group will place volunteers over 50 years of age with York's Out Of School clubs. They will bring experience and creativity to children under 10 years old. The award is for volunteer expenses, promotional materials, room hire and CSV travel expenses.

The Manchester branch of Community Service Volunteers runs a range of projects that encourage people to take up learning via its Media Clubhouse.  With this award it will deliver workshops, led by a qualified nutritionist, aimed at individuals who want to become volunteer healthy living advisors. The volunteers will be recruited from groups with multiple disadvantages as well as minority groups based in and around the City Centre.
