With help from a Lottery grant Meon Valley Rangers will be able to offer its members the opportunity to complete the Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards. A grant will pay for the necessary specialised lightweight camping equipment for the expeditions and will allow two volunteers to complete the mountain leader and first aid courses needed before the training and assessment of the Duke of Edinburgh Award can take place.

This Brownie Group, from the Old Basford area of Nottingham, will use an award to take 24 members on a short break to London during October half-term. The aim of the trip is to allow the girls to complete the 'I Can Do' project, a special badge which can only be completed at Girl Guiding Headquarters in London. The group are celebrating their 70th anniversary this year and this special activity is part of an ongoing programme of special activities to mark the event.
