Meningitis Now Forever Weekend

Meningitis Now works across England to support young people whose lives have been affected by meningitis. This funding will support the expansion of its Believe and Achieve project which helps these young people to live more healthy, active and independent lives by giving them the confidence to achieve their personal goals. The expanded project will provide coaching and training workshops; the creation of a safe online community; and counselling to address social isolation, depression and low self-esteem.

Believe and Achieve

This is a project by a community organisation in Stroud, Gloucestershire, benefiting people across England. They will use the funding to stage an event for adults who have experienced the effects of Meningitis. This will help people to receive support and advice regarding the issues which impact on their health and wellbeing.

Rebuilding Futures Day - supporting adults affected by meningitis

This grant will fund a family fun day for 50 young people affected by meningitis and their families. The event will bring together families from across Scotland for an event at the National Climbing Centre in Edinburgh in October 2017.

A Family Day for children and families affected by Meninigitis

The organisation carries out research, campaigning and provides support to people living with the impact of meningitis. They used the £2,750 grant to run a family fun day for families with children up to the age of 18 who have experienced meningitis.

Meningitis Now Family Fun Day for People affected by Meningitis

The group will provide art therapy sessions for children and young people who have been affected by meningitis and septicaemia.  Children directly affected by meningitis, and their siblings and other young family members, will be offered the therapy. This grant will pay for art therapist fees, travels costs and art materials.

Art Therapy

This research project will measure the physical, psychological, social and economic burden of meningitis and related septicaemia to estimate the after care needs of those affected. The project will also gather information that can be used to support the introduction of a meningococcal group B vaccine. The research will be a retrospective, case-controlled study of the outcomes of meningococcal group B disease in children aged one month to 16 years at the time of illness.

Meningococcal outcomes in children & adolescents

The grant will be used to develop the Hospital & Home project which aims to provide a better level of support for families of meningitis patients.  Families will receive specialist support at a time when it is needed most and will generally move forward from their experience much quicker.  The Meningitis Trust hope to introduce this service throughout all hospitals in NI.

Hospital and Home Project

This is a medical and social research project. This project aims to determine which aspects of choosing and wearing a prosthesis, in particular relating to the appearance of the prosthesis can promote confidence and social and psychological well-being in children and young people. Two separate studies will be carried out using age appropriate research methods, for example, semi-structured interviews for older participants and "bubble dialogue" for younger respondents.

The trust will pilot a creative and play therapy service in Scotland to benefit children and young people affected by meningitis and septicaemia.

Creative Therapies for Meningitis Relief

The group support people affected by all forjms of menigitis, educate the public and professionals and fund research. The project is to fund two family days with professionals to provide support for families affected by meningitis.
